According to GeoMe, the real obstacle for most shoppers isn’t the store itself—it’s leaving the car. Curbside Pickup addresses the rain, the parking situation, the children, and even the flu.
Each one of those represents a shopper who intended to make a purchase but couldn’t”— Rami Smair, Founder and CEO of GeoMeFL, UNITED STATES, August 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A vehicle is parked roughly ninety feet from a retail entrance. On countless occasions, for countless shoppers, those ninety feet determine whether any transaction occurs. Whether or not a sale actually happens has little connection to the price, the merchandise, or the service available inside.
GeoMe, the firm behind the Curbside Pickup platform, notes that this aspect of retail is rarely measured. Businesses pour resources into the interior of their locations. Yet the decision about whether a customer ever steps inside is made from the driver’s seat—often a full block before reaching the store.
The reasons are mundane and recur daily.
A toddler is sleeping in the back seat, and no parent would disturb that child just for a gallon of milk. There are two young children strapped into car seats, and unbuckling both, navigating them across the parking lot, and then securing them again transforms a four-dollar coffee into a twenty-minute chore. Heavy rain or snow is falling, and the shopper is dressed for driving, not for a stroll outdoors. The customer is arriving after a night shift, fresh from the gym, or wearing what people wear on a lazy Sunday morning, and prefers not to be seen. They are recovering from surgery three weeks ago and can handle driving but not crossing a parking lot. They are battling a cold and feel too drained to walk inside, or they feel well enough to shop but would rather avoid standing in a small space breathing near others’ groceries.
And then there is parking—which kills more sales than any other factor. The lot doesn’t even have to be completely full. The customer only needs to suspect it might be. The choice to keep driving is made while approaching, based on a hunch, and the business never learns that a decision was even made.
"Every one of those is a customer who wanted to buy something and didn’t," said Rami Smair, Founder and CEO of GeoMe. "They don’t complain, because nothing went wrong. Nothing happened at all. That’s what makes it invisible. A business can have a great product, fair prices and staff who care, and still lose the sale to a sleeping kid and a full parking lot."
Curbside Pickup is designed for that exact stretch of pavement. Customers place and pay for orders ahead of time through an app or any mobile browser. Geofencing detects the vehicle as it approaches and alerts personnel automatically, so the exchange begins without any action from the customer. The order is brought directly to the car. Nobody has to unbuckle anyone, nobody gets soaked, and the sleeping child remains undisturbed.
This automatic detection is the feature the company insists on. Systems that require the customer to send a text upon arrival are too slow.
"There’s a version of this that’s just about convenience, and that’s fine, but it undersells it," Smair said. "For a parent, it’s the difference between an errand being possible and not possible that day. For someone with the flu, it’s a genuinely contactless transaction, which matters to them and to everyone else in the store.
