Folio transitions between four different modes:
• Mouse Pad: Offers a level area for using a mouse.
• Laptop Stand: Elevates a laptop or tablet for working, reading, or watching videos.
• Lap Desk: Two support legs create a tabletop for working, writing, or eating on a bed or couch.
• Side Table: Provides a small surface for drinks, books, snacks, and everyday objects next to a bed or couch.
Per the company, Folio emerged from input provided by users of its earlier product, the iSwift Pi portable desk. Although customers appreciated being able to set up a work area away from a standard desk, they also wanted a product that could be stored more conveniently, opened rapidly, and applied in a broader variety of situations. FansDreams responded by redesigning the structure based on those suggestions.
In its closed state, Folio looks like an A5-sized book and has a thickness of 1.2 inches, or 30 millimetres. It opens in seconds to create an elevated tabletop fit for a laptop, meal, book, or other common items. Its design allows it to shift between a home office, couch, bed, vehicle, outdoor location, or temporary workstation without the size typically associated with many standard folding tables.
“Folio started with a simple question: how can a useful tabletop take up less space when it’s not needed?” says a FansDreams representative.
“Feedback from iSwift Pi users helped guide the answer. The aim was to keep a sturdy, full work surface while making setup and storage straightforward enough for everyday use.”
The portable desk comes with several features designed to support regular use:
• Compact folded profile: Folio folds down to roughly the size of an A5 book and measures 1.2 inches, or 30 millimetres, thick.
• Reinforced construction: The hinge system is built to handle weights up to 8 kilograms, or 17.6 pounds.
• Durability testing: According to internal testing conducted by FansDreams, the folding mechanism completed 100,000 open-and-close cycles.
• Fast setup: The desk unfolds in seconds without needing a lengthy assembly process.
• Flexible placement: Folio can be used at home, next to a couch or bed, in a parked car, outside, or within a temporary workspace.
Two sizes are planned for the Kickstarter campaign:
• Folio Standard: Measures 440 by 240 by 210 millimetres when open and 220 by 240 by 30 millimetres when folded.
• Folio Max: Measures 540 by 245 by 255 millimetres when open and 270 by 245 by 30 millimetres when folded.
The design occupies a middle ground between a laptop stand and a traditional portable table. Laptop stands are typically compact but lack a full tabletop, while folding tables often remain bulky even after being collapsed. Folio merges both concepts into a single unit that can function as a Mouse Pad, Laptop Stand, Lap Desk, or Side Table before folding back into a flat, book-shaped form for storage.
Each configuration addresses a different everyday requirement. The Laptop Stand lifts a device for viewing or work, whereas the Lap Desk offers a supported surface on a bed or couch. The Mouse Pad provides a flat area for computer use, and the Side Table holds books, snacks, drinks, or other small objects. Together, the four setups allow Folio to adapt to remote work, studying, reading, dining, and temporary arrangements without needing separate furniture pieces.
Two introductory price points are available for each option:
• Folio Standard: Super Early Bird pricing at $55, limited to 200 units, with a planned retail price of $89.
• Folio Max: Super Early Bird pricing at $68, limited to 200 units, with a planned retail price of $109.
