Streaming is entering a bold new era. Tubi, the Fox-owned free streaming service with more than 100 million monthly active users, has made history by launching the first native streaming app built directly inside ChatGPT — giving viewers a seamless, AI-powered way to discover content across its library of over 300,000 movies and TV episodes.
While other streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have experimented with AI-driven recommendations within their own platforms, Tubi is the first to build a dedicated experience directly inside ChatGPT — one of the world’s most widely used AI platforms, which now boasts 900 million weekly active users.
How It Works
Accessing Tubi’s ChatGPT integration is effortlessly simple. Users install the Tubi app from the ChatGPT app store, then type “@Tubi” anywhere in a conversation to activate it. From there, they can make natural-language requests — anything from “find me a thriller for girls’ night” to “something funny to watch with the kids” — and instantly receive curated, personalized recommendations linked directly to Tubi’s catalog.
This conversational approach to content discovery is a major step forward from traditional search bars and algorithm-driven recommendation carousels. Instead of scrolling endlessly through thumbnails, users describe what they’re in the mood for and let AI do the curation.
A Strategic Pivot to AI-Powered Discovery
The launch represents a notable strategic evolution for Tubi. In 2023, the company introduced “Rabbit AI,” a ChatGPT-powered feature within its own app that offered personalized suggestions. That feature was later discontinued — but rather than recreating AI capabilities in-house, Tubi is now embracing a smarter strategy: meeting users where they already are.
This approach is emblematic of a broader movement across the industry. OpenAI first opened its platform to third-party app developers in October, and dozens of leading brands — including Booking.com, Canva, DoorDash, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, and Zillow — have since built native integrations. Tubi’s debut in this ecosystem signals that AI-powered super-apps could soon become the default way consumers access entertainment, shopping, travel, and more.
For streaming in particular, discovery has become as important as content itself. With Tubi’s ChatGPT integration, finding the perfect thing to watch just got dramatically easier.
