Kunlun’s Play for Fun Launches Club Koala: A No-Code, AI-Powered 3D Social Game Built on UGC

Play for Fun, Kunlun Group's indie gaming studio, has launched Club Koala — a no-code, AI-powered 3D social simulation game featuring lifelike AI NPCs, adaptive AI music, and a fully customizable UGC world where anyone can build their own paradise island.

Play for Fun, an indie gaming studio owned by Kunlun Group, has unveiled Club Koala — an AI-powered 3D simulation game that combines generative AI with a dynamic, fully customizable user-generated content (UGC) world. Players can create their own dream world, a personalized paradise island complete with unique characters, mini-games, and immersive experiences, all powered by AI tools designed to require zero coding knowledge.

First announced at Gamescom 2023 — the world’s largest gaming event — Club Koala is positioning itself at the forefront of a new era in social gaming, one where the boundaries between player and creator dissolve entirely.

AI at the Heart of the Experience

What sets Club Koala apart is its deep integration of artificial intelligence across every dimension of gameplay. The game features lifelike AI non-player characters (NPCs) that remember interactions, adapt to player behavior, and develop genuine relationships with the people they encounter. Rather than following scripted paths, these NPCs exhibit self-awareness and independence — making their own schedules, responding to unexpected events, and coordinating with other NPCs in ways that create emergent, human-feeling gameplay.

The game also integrates AI-generated music that adapts to the atmosphere players create in their worlds, adding another layer of personalization to an already deeply customizable experience. The advanced AI features simplify world-building for players, lowering the barrier to creation while raising the ceiling for what a single player can build and express.

A Vision Rooted in Human Connection

The inspiration behind Club Koala is as personal as it is ambitious. According to Play for Fun COO Elaine Jiang, CEO Fang Han wanted to recreate the sense of wonder and belonging he felt as a child playing adventure games — a feeling he rediscovered when he became a father. “Club Koala was ignited by a passionate gamer who envisioned a world of enchantment and diversity,” Jiang explained. “Mr. Fang wanted to make his dream into a tangible reality — a place where he and his daughter belong, and where their creativity can grow and flourish.”

That philosophy shapes every design decision: Club Koala is built to be welcoming to players of all ages and experience levels, from advanced gamers seeking rich simulation depth to beginners looking for a safe, expressive creative space.

Building Social-Emotional Skills Through Play

Club Koala’s AI NPCs don’t just make for more engaging gameplay — they create a support system for players. By fostering genuine companionship between players and AI characters, the game builds social-emotional skills in a natural, enjoyable context. The NPC community becomes a dynamic environment where players learn cooperation, communication, and creativity through interaction rather than instruction.

The public beta for Club Koala is expected to launch later this year. As the game prepares to open to players globally, it represents a compelling vision of where AI and social gaming are headed — not as separate forces, but as deeply intertwined dimensions of a new kind of play.
