The University of Houston Law Center is now accepting applications for J.D. candidates from other law schools nationwide to participate in its specialized LL.M. programs via the Joint JD-LL.M. Visiting Student Program.

Qualified second- and third-year law students can enroll as visiting students at the UH Law Center while earning credits toward a Master of Laws degree. Available LL.M. tracks include Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law; Health Law; Intellectual Property and Information Law; International Law; and Tax Law. By starting graduate-level coursework during their time as a visiting student, individuals can cut the time needed to finish an LL.M. by one semester and reduce the total expense of the degree.

Opportunities for visiting J.D. students to simultaneously accumulate credits toward an LL.M. are rare across U.S. law schools. The UH Law Center’s offering stands out for its range, allowing visiting participants to choose from five distinct advanced legal specialization areas.

“Our LL.M. specialties build on the Law Center’s nationally recognized academic strengths,” said University of Houston Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes. “Law students can deepen their knowledge while experiencing all that studying law in Houston has to offer.”

UHLC’s location gives visiting law students entry to one of the country’s premier legal markets. Houston, the fourth-largest city in the United States, hosts more than 20 Fortune 500 corporations, the Texas Medical Center (the globe’s largest medical complex), NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and thousands of energy firms, placing students near major industries and employers.

UH Law Center Global and Graduate Programs will host Information sessions for the Joint JD/LLM program on October 8, October 22, and November 5th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Central.
