OTR Introduces OTR3DLab™, a Breakthrough Physical Prototyping Service for Off-the-Road Tires, Wheels, and Tracks

The machinery creates large, life-size prototypes of treads, tracks, wheels, castings, housings, and other parts, achieving a degree of realism that was once extremely challenging to attain in the off-the-road sector.

By leveraging sophisticated, large-scale 3D printing technology, OTR can turn new product concepts into full-size prototypes within weeks—not months.

OTR3DLab provides customers with something that has never truly been available in the off-the-road industry: the chance to physically handle a full-scale concept before committing to significant tooling investments.”— Patrick Sexton, Global Vice President of Engineering and InnovationROME, GA, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — OTR Engineered Solutions, a worldwide frontrunner in off-the-road tire, wheel, and track systems, has unveiled OTR3DLab™, a pioneering prototyping service aimed at substantially shortening product development periods.

For many years, bringing a fresh off-the-road tire, wheel, track, or related component idea to fruition demanded a large investment in tooling, lengthy lead times, and few opportunities for full-size visual inspection before production decisions were finalized. OTR3DLab enhances this workflow while minimizing risk.

Using cutting-edge, large-format 3D printing technology, OTR can now generate full-scale physical prototypes of new product concepts in just a few weeks—instead of months—enabling clients to evaluate on-vehicle aesthetics, fitment, proportions, clearance, and overall design path before committing to expensive production tooling.

“OTR3DLab gives customers something they have never truly had before in the off-the-road market: the ability to physically experience a full-scale concept before making major tooling decisions,” said Patrick Sexton, Global Vice President of Engineering and Innovation at OTR Engineered Solutions. “Instead of relying only on drawings, renderings, or small-scale models, customers can now see the product, touch it, and review it on actual equipment. It allows them to make quicker decisions with reduced risk.”

The OTR3DLab service supports over 1,000 printable materials, including flexible, rubber-like elastomers that accurately replicate the look and feel of a real production tire. The equipment can produce prototypes up to one cubic meter, or roughly 35 cubic feet, allowing clients to receive large, full-scale concepts of treads, tracks, wheels, castings, housings, and other parts with a level of realism that was previously hard to reach in the off-the-road industry.

Printed full-scale physical tire prototypes can be mounted directly onto standard steel or aluminum wheels using conventional tire mounting tools. This enables clients to review assemblies in a more realistic format and, in some cases, place them directly on equipment for visual evaluation, packaging studies, and final design validation.

This new service also complements OTR’s TreadIQ™, an AI-powered tire design platform used to quickly develop custom off-the-road tread concepts for OEMs and distributors. With TreadIQ, OTR engineers can incorporate customer preferences for tread styling, performance features, application requirements, and visual direction. Combined with engineering know-how, the system helps generate functional tire concepts at outstanding speed. After the concept is produced by TreadIQ, OTR3DLab brings it to life.

“Combining AI-powered tire design with full-scale 3D prototype development provides OTR customers with a faster, more interactive, and more visual innovation experience,” said Oscar Torres, OTR’s President and CEO. “It allows us to move from idea to concept to physical review much faster than traditional development methods. That speed can be a major advantage for customers working to launch new products, refresh existing platforms, or differentiate themselves in competitive markets. Ultimately, it’s another way we’re making customers’ lives easier.”

OTR Engineered Solutions is a market-leading global enterprise specializing in off-the-road tire, wheel, and track solutions for original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers.
