Senior SaaS Leader Says Human Connection Will Become a Business Advantage in the AI Age

Sarah McDevitt's e-book version of The Round Table

While companies rush to integrate AI, Sarah Stone McDevitt contends that the future of work isn't about pitting humans against technology, but rather teaching people to collaborate with it.

As organizations hurry to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), numerous executives are questioning what position people will occupy in a workplace where machines can produce content, automate processes, and speed up decision-making at an extraordinary pace.

For Sarah Stone McDevitt, a seasoned leader in the SaaS field, the solution isn't to oppose or dread AI. Instead, it involves acknowledging the tasks that humans are uniquely suited to perform.

“There's plenty of discussion about AI's capabilities, but I became intrigued by what humans still do better,” states McDevitt.

Her perspective is that AI ought not be viewed as a direct substitute for human talent, but rather as a resource that enables individuals to refocus on abilities that machines find hard to copy: empathy, judgment, relationship cultivation, and what she terms “relational intelligence”.

This difference is significant because numerous companies are already examining AI mainly from a productivity and efficiency standpoint. Although AI allows businesses to operate more quickly, McDevitt insists that speed by itself isn't sufficient. In a world growing more automated, the capacity to generate significance and grasp human context will become even more crucial.

“AI will take over more and more information processing. People will take over more and more meaning-making,” she remarks.

For those in charge, this prompts a key inquiry: not merely what tasks can be automated, but which ones ought to stay fundamentally human. If companies concentrate exclusively on efficiency, they endanger the very exchanges that build trust, drive, self-assurance, and rapport.

As a top executive, McDevitt operates in a field already being influenced by AI. She thinks that the most prosperous organizations won't be the ones that automate the most extensively, but rather those that adopt technology while reinforcing the human attributes that render work purposeful.

“What's ahead belongs to individuals who become more deeply human, not less,” says McDevitt.

Her latest publication, The Round Table: How Relational Intelligence Will Become Your Human Advantage in the AI Age, investigates how relational intelligence might become a key benefit as AI grows more sophisticated.

At its core, McDevitt explains, the takeaway is not opposed to technology. It is in favor of humanity.

“If a single concept lies at the core of The Round Table, it is this: as technology grows more capable, our humanity grows more essential. The future doesn't pit humans against AI. It involves humans working together with AI while cultivating the distinctly human traits that machines find hard to imitate.”
