The days of relying on phone calls and ticket counters for intercity bus travel across the Gulf may be numbered. Oman’s first online bus booking marketplace, Shawy, has expanded its platform to cover cross-border routes into Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, bringing a long-overdue digital upgrade to a traditionally analog process.

Travelers can now search and book cross-border routes such as Muscat to Riyadh directly through the Shawy app, alongside more than 100 total routes now available on the service.

MUSCAT, OMAN, October 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Shawy (shawy.om), Oman’s first online marketplace for intercity bus tickets, announced today that its platform now includes over 100 routes, with the most significant addition being cross-border services connecting Oman to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Passengers can now book seats online to major destinations including Riyadh, Makkah, Fujairah, Al Ain, and Sharjah, in addition to all domestic routes within Oman.
To make this possible, Shawy has partnered with transport operators such as Mwasalat and Eternity Road Land Transport, aggregating their services into a single digital booking experience.
Launched in March 2026, Shawy enables travelers to search, book, and pay for bus tickets through its iOS and Android apps as well as its website. The platform supports five languages — Arabic, English, Persian, Hindi, and Urdu — accepts local payment methods, and keeps its data hosted inside Oman.
“Intercity travel in this region has relied on ticket counters and phone calls for too long. We experienced that gap first-hand, and we decided to build the digital infrastructure that connects passengers and operators in one place,” said Mohammed Al-Badaai, Co-Founder and CEO of Shawy. “With routes to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, we are a step closer to making bus travel across the Gulf as simple as booking a flight.”
“Our goal is to build infrastructure, not just an app,” said Amirhossein Nozarian, Co-Founder and COO of Shawy. “As GCC integration moves forward, including the planned unified tourist visa, we want to be ready to connect more destinations.”

Why it matters: By digitizing cross-border bus ticketing across three Gulf countries, Shawy is tackling a friction point that has long frustrated travelers in the region. As the GCC moves toward closer integration with initiatives like a unified tourist visa, platforms like this could become essential infrastructure for regional mobility.
