Pro Platforms Opens Distributor ERPs to AI Assistants Through Model Context Protocol

Field reps and contractors can access real-time pricing, stock levels, and order placement through chat, voice, or email — with no API keys required

We believe it is a matter of months, not years, before a roofer is on a rooftop, pulls out their phone, and maps out a full job using their favorite AI voice assistant."”— Santo J. LeoBOCA RATON, FL, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Pro Platforms, Inc. revealed today MCP for ERP, a deployment of the Model Context Protocol that enables vetted AI assistants to interact with a building products distributor’s ERP in real time. Sales personnel and contractors can look up customer-specific rates, verify stock, check prior orders, use existing templates, generate a quote, and finalize the order through the assistant they already rely on: a messaging interface, a voice interaction, an email conversation, or their own custom software.

MCP is the open protocol that links AI assistants to business applications. MCP for ERP operates atop the order management system that Pro Platforms already runs in production, so access aligns with the distributor’s current permissions and single sign-on setup. Distributors do not provide API keys to reps or contractors.

MCP access is currently in a private beta phase and becomes available in December 2026 for active Pro Platforms distributors and their contractors, such as Richards Building Supply, SPEC Building Materials, Mid-Atlantic Roofing Supply, and others. Pro Platforms is already compatible with Infor, DMSI, and several Epicor versions.

The challenge: AI can handle material takeoffs. It still cannot complete the order.

Sales representatives at major distributors already leverage corporate AI tools to extract material lists from contractor blueprints. Turning those takeoffs into actual orders still depends on email. A rep sends the takeoff to an ERP order entry inbox; another system copies the details into the ERP; the rep forwards the confirmation back to the contractor. Manufacturers working on the same accounts operate a separate workflow because they never access the distributor’s ERP directly.

Contractors are developing their own tools and adopting AI assistants simultaneously. These agents have no interest in emailing another AI. They want direct connectivity to shorten the journey from job site to material delivery. Direct API access is not a viable option. Distributors will not issue credentials, and most ERPs lack the branch, catalog, and substitution details an agent needs to identify the correct item, or a fitting substitute, independently.

MCP for ERP bridges this divide. If a product is unavailable at one branch and a substitute exists elsewhere, the assistant can evaluate project dimensions, location, contractor preferences, stock levels, and budget in a single step, then execute the order. Tasks that once demanded years of product expertise and multiple people on calls now happen within one interaction.

“We are quickly moving into an era where AI is always present,” said Santo J. Leo, founder and CEO of Pro Platforms. “We believe it is a matter of months, not years, before a roofer is on a rooftop, pulls out their phone, and maps out a full job using their favorite AI voice assistant. The systems we support, for the contractor, the distributor, and the customer, provide the context, security, and control to offer contractors, sales reps, and their agents instant access to the information they need to do business at the speed they want today.”

For sales representatives

Pro Platforms already functions as the bridge between the contractor-facing platform and the distributor’s ERP. It manages the order processing layer and the SSO that distributors use in production. Exposing this layer through MCP allows an approved assistant, including enterprise tools like Microsoft Copilot, to verify live stock and contract pricing, review open orders and past activity, use saved templates, build a quote, and finalize the order. The response comes back in the same conversation. Access adheres to current permissions and applies to contractor accounts on the platform, enabling organization-wide adoption without extra login credentials.

For contractors

Contractors get MCP access via Trellis, the distributor’s complimentary white-labeled field platform powered by Pro Platforms. A contractor’s assistant can verify stock and contract rates, monitor open orders, reorder from previous purchase orders, and use templates created by the contractor or published by the distributor.

Access will expand past ordering. Through MCP, a contractor’s assistant can eventually tap into Trellis field service capabilities: estimating, invoicing, payments, financing, and scheduling. Signup connects the contractor to the distributor’s ERP. The connection, including MCP, is managed through Gateway. The distributor retains control and can monitor activity whether the contractor uses the branded app or their own software.

Every order lands in the distributor’s ERP

Orders placed via MCP by a sales rep, a manufacturer rep, or a contractor enter Gateway and are transferred into the ERP. A distributor can assume control of any in-progress order and apply the same review, pricing, and fulfillment procedures used for orders placed on the platform before it reaches the ERP. A single queue. Order entry time, phone calls, and email threads are reduced. ERP license counts stay lower than the sales team would otherwise need. Email-based AI order entry becomes a choice rather than the only option.
