GLEIF Welcomes eMudhra as a Validation Agent, Expanding LEI Access Through its Digital Trust Ecosystem

As India posts the fastest LEI growth rate of any jurisdiction in Q2 2026, eMudhra’s designation as a Validation Agent is expected to facilitate simpler and faster high‑volume issuance

eMudhra Limited (NSE symbol: EMUDHRA)

10 September 2026 – Mumbai – Companies in India will now have a more streamlined pathway to obtain and renew Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs), as eMudhra Limited (eMudhra) embeds LEI application and renewal into its existing identity‑verification and onboarding workflows. The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) today confirmed eMudhra’s appointment as a Validation Agent of Legal Entity Identifier India Limited (LEIL) within the Global LEI System, making this integration possible.

eMudhra will serve as a Validation Agent for LEIL, a GLEIF‑accredited LEI Issuer that is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Clearing Corporation of India Limited (CCIL). LEIL is presently the sole LEI Issuer recognized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act. Through this arrangement, eMudhra can incorporate LEI application and renewal services into its established identity verification and onboarding processes, thereby eliminating the need for organizations to undergo separate checks across multiple services. LEIL will oversee the issuance and maintenance of LEI records in line with Global LEI System requirements.

This appointment demonstrates how globally standardized organizational identity can be integrated into existing digital trust infrastructure. Such integration enables organizations to present a consistent identity across financial markets, payment systems, and cross‑border digital operations.

Based in Bengaluru, India, eMudhra supplies digital identity, authentication, and trust services to clients in more than 35 countries worldwide. As India’s largest licensed Certifying Authority and a globally recognized public Certificate Authority, the company brings proven expertise in public key infrastructure (PKI), electronic signatures, identity and access management, and certificate lifecycle management to the Global LEI System.

India has been steadily embedding the LEI into its financial infrastructure. In March 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a master direction that consolidated existing LEI requirements for specified transactions involving government securities, money market instruments, foreign exchange instruments, and derivatives. All resident and non‑resident participants engaging in transactions covered by this direction must obtain an LEI and keep it current.

This regulatory foundation has driven ongoing LEI adoption in India. In January 2026, India became the jurisdiction with the highest number of active LEIs, and it recorded the fastest growth rate of any jurisdiction during the second quarter. Integrating LEI services into established onboarding channels can support this demand while making standardized organizational identity more accessible throughout India’s financial ecosystem.

The development also reflects a broader trend toward consistent organizational identification in cross‑border financial processes. In June 2025, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) revised Recommendation 16. That revision sets standardized information requirements for certain cross‑border payments and recognizes the LEI as an identifier that can be used for legal persons. Jurisdictions are expected to implement the updated requirements by the end of 2030.

Alexandre Kech, CEO of GLEIF, stated: “The sustained rise in LEI adoption and application in India in recent years demonstrates how trusted, verifiable organizational identity strengthens transparency and interoperability across the global digital economy. Welcoming eMudhra as a Validation Agent will help meet growing demand for the LEI both in India and internationally, supporting regulatory compliance and fostering market‑led innovation.”

Nand Kishore, Director of LEIL, commented: “We are delighted to welcome eMudhra as a Validation Agent. This partnership represents a step forward in simplifying and accelerating LEI procurement. By merging eMudhra’s operational reach and digital capabilities with our decade‑long experience in issuing and managing LEIs, we are enabling organizations to meet their identity verification needs seamlessly. This integration strengthens our validation framework and reaffirms our dedication to data quality, transparency, and strict adherence to regulatory standards. We look forward to realizing the synergies needed to scale trusted digital identity infrastructure, delivering enhanced security and value to the broader financial markets.”

Kaushik Srinivasan, Co‑Founder of eMudhra, said: “Becoming a Validation Agent of LEIL within the Global LEI System is a natural progression of eMudhra’s role as a trusted Certifying Authority. It allows our clients to acquire a single, globally recognized identity through a smooth onboarding experience – enabling faster access and supporting their compliance and cross‑border growth.”

The Validation Agent role enables financial institutions and other supervised entities involved in legal entity identity verification and validation to obtain and maintain LEIs for their clients in cooperation with accredited LEI Issuers. More than 20 Validation Agents currently operate worldwide, covering Africa, Australasia, China, Europe, India, the Middle East, and North America.
