Meta’s AI ambitions received a major vote of confidence from consumers this week. Following the launch of its newest AI model, Muse Spark, the Meta AI app experienced a stunning surge in downloads — rocketing from No. 57 to the top 5 on the U.S. App Store virtually overnight.
According to data from market intelligence firm Appfigures, the app’s climb reflected a flood of new installs triggered by excitement around the Muse Spark release. A separate report from Sensor Tower estimated that Meta AI saw approximately 46,000 U.S. iOS downloads on April 8, 2026 — an 87% jump day-over-day. Meanwhile, daily web visitors for Meta AI in the U.S. surged more than 450% compared to the day before, hitting an all-time high.
What Is Muse Spark?
Muse Spark is Meta’s most advanced AI model to date and its first major release under Alexandr Wang, the Scale AI founder who was brought on board to lead Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. Wang was recruited last year as part of Meta’s aggressive push to position itself at the forefront of the AI race.
The model represents a significant leap over its predecessors. It accepts multimodal input — including voice, text, and images — and has been optimized for a wide range of tasks, from helping users understand complex science and health topics to enabling visual coding, where users can build websites and mini-games from simple text prompts. The system can also deploy multiple subagents simultaneously to handle complex, layered queries.
Strong Growth Momentum
The Muse Spark launch has accelerated what was already an impressive growth trajectory for the Meta AI app. Total installs worldwide have now reached 60.5 million across the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million of those downloads occurring just this year alone. Over the past five months, Meta AI downloads have jumped 138% compared to the same period after the app first launched.
India has emerged as Meta AI’s top market globally by download volume, followed by the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico — reflecting the platform’s broad international appeal.
The model is also rolling out to Meta’s broader ecosystem, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s AI-powered glasses, in the coming weeks. With Muse Spark now in consumers’ hands, Meta is clearly signaling it intends to be a serious contender in the AI assistant market — and users are responding enthusiastically.
