Lothian, Maryland, USA— We Are Lothian, a community-building project created by Maisie T. Howard, is hosting the South County Candidate Open House on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Southern Middle School.
The discussion will attract local people and candidates for major seats in the 2026 election cycle and is organized with the Caucus of African American Leaders convener, Carl Snowden.
The event benefits towns throughout Southern Anne Arundel County, including Lothian, Tracey’s Landing, Shady Side, Columbia Beach, Edgewater, Deale, Churchton, West River, North Beach, Owings, Galesville, Friendship, Harwood, and Mayo.
This is an event about accessibility, dialog and public responsibility. Offices to be invited include federal, state, and county levels: Maryland Gubernatorial candidates, U.S. House of Representatives (Congressional District 5), Maryland Senate District 30, Maryland Legislative District 30B, County Council District 7, and countywide offices in Anne Arundel, including County Executive, State’s Attorney, Circuit Court, and Sheriff. “Community-building comes in all forms,” said Maisie T. Howard, founder of We Are Lothian.
“The South County Candidate Open House is an opportunity to bring residents and candidates together in our ‘South County style.’ It’s an opportunity to see neighbors, meet candidates, obtain information, and foster community connectedness. “I am excited to work with the Caucus of African American Leaders and other stakeholders throughout South County to bring this to life.”
Co-sponsoring and supporting groups include Patuxent Riverkeeper, NAACP of Anne Arundel County, Community Alliance of South County, and Southern High School Student Government Association. Attendees can meet candidates and debate local concerns, the environment, infrastructure, and civic life.
Admission is free and open to all South County residents.
