A father of three uses his daughter's type 1 diabetes diagnosis to explore why systems often hold onto complexity even after it no longer benefits patients
Complexity doesn't just create friction. It creates distance from responsibility, from empathy, and from care itself.”— Krinsky remarked to the TEDxBeverlyGrove audience. WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, UNITED STATES, August 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Aaron Michael Krinsky, an investor and entrepreneur who works where technology, design, and healthcare intersect, presented at TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026, contending that complexity can add an extra weight on top of a disease for both patients and their families.
Krinsky spoke under the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 theme "Reimagining the Possible," referencing his own family's journey after his daughter Rumijean was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes shortly before her first birthday. He recounted five years of managing her treatment within a medical device environment made up of separate devices, separate websites, and separate alerts, and maintained that much of that complexity can continue well after it no longer serves those who rely on it.
"Complexity doesn't just create friction," Krinsky told the TEDxBeverlyGrove audience. "It creates distance from responsibility, from empathy, and from care itself."
Krinsky described a pivotal moment over coffee with a childhood friend who also has type 1 diabetes and had adopted an automated, open-source method to help control the condition. According to Krinsky, the friend's everyday management numbers had notably improved, and the discussion became both a relief and a wake-up call. That exchange prompted Krinsky to ask why certain patient-driven innovations and simpler care models take so long to reach those who need them.
Krinsky argued that the same trend appears beyond healthcare—in education, finance, and technology. Systems frequently add complexity to fix a problem, then hold onto that complexity long after it stops benefiting the people within them.
Krinsky ended his presentation by urging a "one device by 2030," his stated rallying cry for a standard of diabetes care designed around patients rather than institutional complexity.
Krinsky's professional life has focused on the intersection of technology, design, and innovation. He started at IMAX in its digital division and has since co-founded and invested in businesses spanning media, technology, and healthcare. Growing up in Laguna Beach, California, he attended Yale University and earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California. He now resides in Central Oregon with his wife, Emily, and their three children.
Krinsky's talk was featured in the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 speaker series and will be made available online in the coming months.
