Secretariat and ACEDS' 2026 AI Report reveals how AI is transforming the legal industry, from adoption and workflows to governance, risks, and opportunities.
ATLANTA, GA, UNITED STATES, July 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Artificial intelligence has achieved nearly complete integration throughout the legal profession, according to the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Report produced by Secretariat in partnership with ACEDS. The conversation has shifted from whether AI is in use to which specific AI tools are utilized, how they are woven into routine legal processes, and what risks must be managed to keep usage accurate, defensible, and consistent with professional and ethical obligations.
In Secretariat’s second year conducting this research with ACEDS, the survey depicts a sector moving quickly from trial phases to full operational deployment. Generative AI has become an increasingly standard element of legal work, with respondents indicating rising application in document drafting, legal research, web searches, document review, document summarization, eDiscovery, and other fundamental legal functions.
Major discoveries from the report are:
– Over the past year, 91% of respondents utilized Generative AI, signaling a substantial transition from testing to routine application
– Data privacy and confidentiality remain the primary obstacle to AI adoption (57%), while concerns about hallucinations have surged (46%) to become the second-largest barrier, surpassing cost (40%)
– 64% of respondents anticipate their organization’s AI spending will rise during the next 12 months, pointing to ongoing growth in adoption and implementation
The results further highlight that quicker adoption brings both advantages and dangers. While organizations achieve improvements in speed and efficiency, they are simultaneously confronting increasing issues regarding privacy, confidentiality, reliability, and defensibility.
