DOVER, DE, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Intake Dental has announced that the Dental Passport is now generally available — a free dental record owned by the patient, stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and carried by the patient to whatever dental office they visit.
Nearly every record a dental patient can currently access belongs to another party. Practice portals are limited to one office’s front desk. X-rays are trapped inside imaging applications. Patients who switch dentists, relocate, or travel typically begin again with a paper health history and a release form, leaving the new dentist without the images taken six months earlier. Moreover, patients abroad may find it difficult to complete health history forms and accurately describe previous treatments.
The Dental Passport flips that model. The patient controls the record: medical history, x-rays, insurance data, and a stored signature, all inside the phone wallet they already use for boarding passes. When scanned at a participating front desk, the pass checks the patient in with intake already finished and insurance already on file. For any other office, the passport sends a verified records packet via email or fax — meaning it functions with practices that use none of Intake Dental’s software.
Access is granted, never assumed. Offices request records; the patient approves through their phone; every access is logged. Nothing is transferred without the patient’s knowledge.
“Patients have always been told the records are theirs, and then discovered that what that means in practice is a printout, if you ask, and a wait,” said Jordan Thomas, DMD, founder of Intake Dental and a practicing dentist. “I wanted the version where a patient walks into any office in the world and the dentist can see the patient records in any language. That is better dentistry, not just better paperwork. It’s the difference between guessing and knowing.”
The passport reads in 19 languages, and the receiving office still receives everything in its own language — a gap that matters for patients who travel for care or move between countries, and for the offices that then must treat them without a history.
Two capabilities go beyond the record itself. With consent, each visit is summarized in plain language: what was done, what it means, what happens next. And patients can send their records to a second office for an online second opinion — useful for anyone holding a quote for major work who wants another clinician to review it before committing.
The Dental Passport is free to create, free to keep, and free to use, with no advertising and no data sold. It is also free for a dental office to accept.
“We are the custodian, not the owner,” Thomas said. “If we ever start behaving like the owner, patients should leave and take the record with them. That’s rather the point.”
