CalcFocus unveils Curate, the governed data layer now powering its agentic AI for insurers

Insurance carriers are drowning in data but starving for answers they can actually trust. That’s the problem CalcFocus is tackling with the official launch of Curate, a governed data foundation that promises to make every AI-driven insight traceable back to its source.

The new offering brings continuously updated, governed data with natural-language analytics to illustration, administration, billing, and claims.

Every AI capability starts with data you can trust. Curate gives our clients that foundation continuously updated, governed, and auditable…”— Sandia Ren, Chief Executive Officer of CalcFocus

Hot on the heels of this month’s rollout of new agentic AI features across its platform, CalcFocus has officially unveiled Curate, the governed data backbone that supports those capabilities. The system is already driving production reporting for a number of clients, and additional carrier deployments are in the pipeline.

Unlike a typical reporting add-on that gets bolted onto a single application, Curate is woven into the fabric of the entire CalcFocus ecosystem. Since every product in the suite runs on a shared product model, Curate acts as the governed data layer beneath illustration, administration, billing, and claims. Data flows in continuously, access is locked down by role, every action is logged for audit, and personally identifiable information is handled by design. That means any output—whether it’s a report, a dashboard, or a simple answer to a question—can be traced directly back to the underlying source data.

With this launch, CalcFocus is also formalizing the name for its conversational reporting tool, previously introduced this month as part of its agentic AI push. Now called Curate Natural-Language BI and Analytics, the feature lets business users type questions in plain English against the governed data model and get responses in seconds—no more waiting weeks for a programmer to hand-code a report.

“Every AI capability starts with data you can trust. Curate gives our clients that foundation continuously updated, governed, and auditable, so every question they ask and every insight they get back is built on data they can stand behind.” Sandia Ren, Chief Executive Officer of CalcFocus

“Curate runs on the same shared product model that powers the rest of the CalcFocus platform, so it isn’t a separate reporting system bolted on the side, it’s the governed data layer underneath every agent we’ve shipped, from Sage to Agentic Production Monitoring to Curate Natural-Language BI and Analytics. Today’s launch just puts a name on the foundation that’s been there since day one: a business user can ask a plain-language question and trust that the answer traces back to real, current data.” Tommy McCahill, Chief Product Officer and co-founder of CalcFocus

Curate is now rolling out across CalcFocus’s existing client base, with more carrier implementations slated through 2027 as the company continues to build out AI features on top of it. To see Curate’s AI-Assisted Report Builder in action, CalcFocus is hosting a live webinar on Wednesday, November 18th. Why it matters: As insurers race to adopt AI, the real differentiator isn’t the algorithm—it’s the integrity of the data feeding it. Curate’s emphasis on governance, auditability, and traceability points to a broader industry shift where AI trust hinges on transparent data foundations, not just flashy outputs.
