Watch Live on July 23: Fields Medal Announcement and Press Conference

During the livestreamed opening ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians, the Fields Medals will be awarded. Afterwards, a press conference is scheduled.

The prestigious Fields Medal, often called the Nobel Prize of mathematics, will be awarded to its winners on July 23 during the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Philadelphia. This prize is presented once every four years.

On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the official announcement of the winners will take place during the ICM opening ceremony, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon EDT. Immediately after the ceremony, from shortly after noon until 1:30 p.m. EDT, a press conference and media availability with the medalists will be held.

Both the opening ceremony and the press conference will be broadcast live via the Simons Foundation YouTube channel.

The ICM convenes every four years and features the unveiling of mathematics’ foremost awards — among them the Fields Medals, the Abacus Medal, and the Chern Medal — alongside presentations by prominent mathematicians discussing the latest advances in the discipline. Additionally, a lineup of free public activities will offer the general public an opportunity to engage with the elegance and widespread presence of mathematics.

Members of the press who wish to participate in person may register at no cost to attend the meeting and the press conference.

This edition of the ICM arrives at a critical moment for mathematics, with artificial intelligence and proof verification tools like Lean driving the most significant transformations in mathematical practice in thousands of years. Renowned mathematician and Fields Medal recipient Terence Tao is scheduled to deliver a public lecture on this subject, reflecting on the fundamental essence of why we engage in mathematics.
