InnerActiv taps insider risk veteran Rob Schuett to lead customer success in the AI era

As organizations race to adopt generative AI, a new blind spot has emerged: the very tools meant to boost productivity can also become a channel for data leakage. That convergence of AI adoption and insider risk is exactly why InnerActiv’s latest leadership move matters.

InnerActiv, a company focused on AI governance, insider risk management and data protection, has named Robert “Rob” Schuett as its new Vice President of Customer Success & Operations. The appointment signals a deliberate push to help clients not just buy the platform, but actually get value from it.

Schuett isn’t new to the high-stakes world of cybersecurity and investigations. He spent more than a decade building his investigative skills at the Federal Bureau of Investigation before moving into the commercial sector. There, he logged 11 years as a Director at Mandiant, now part of Google, and most recently served as Director of Services at DTEX. His background spans insider threat detection, incident response and customer-facing services — experience that InnerActiv believes will be critical as companies grapple with how to monitor AI use without stifling it.

Also worth a look: Build Labs launches free tool to expose AI ‘slop’ in vibe-coded apps and AGM Mobile’s 39g CAM 1 skips the case to waterproof everyday family moments.

“AI is the newest insider, so Rob’s deep experience with insider risk is a big benefit at a time when there’s a growing need for organizations to safely adopt, use and monitor AI,” said Ray Shealy, Chief Executive Officer of InnerActiv. “Rob understands that customers need more than visibility — they need help turning that visibility into effective security programs and measurable results. Customer success is what turns a platform purchase into real outcomes. With more than a decade of commercial experience built on an FBI investigative foundation, Rob will help our customers deploy successfully, strengthen their AI governance and insider risk programs, and realize value from InnerActiv as we grow.”

In his new position, Schuett will be responsible for building and leading the teams that guide customers through deployment and adoption of InnerActiv’s technology. He will report directly to Shealy and work in tandem with Chief Technology Officer Johnny Collins and the engineering group to ensure customer feedback shapes product development.

“Insider risk has always been about people, and AI has made it more urgent,” said Schuett. “Organizations need to know how employees and AI tools are using their data, and they need that visibility turned into action. InnerActiv’s leading endpoint-level view gives security, legal and HR teams the context to see what is actually happening. I’m here to make sure every customer gets from deployment to a program that delivers measurable results.”

The core challenge Schuett will help address: CISOs and CIOs now face a visibility gap where traditional security controls can’t see what employees or AI agents are doing with sensitive data. InnerActiv’s approach is endpoint-first, offering visibility into AI interactions, employee activity and data movement. That gives security, legal and HR teams the contextual information needed to govern AI usage, investigate suspicious behavior and enforce controls — without resorting to blanket bans on new technology.

Why it matters: As AI tools become embedded in everyday workflows, traditional perimeter-based security is no longer sufficient. Companies that fail to monitor how AI agents and employees handle sensitive data risk regulatory fallout and reputational damage. InnerActiv’s move to put an insider risk veteran in a customer-facing leadership role underscores a broader industry shift: the next competitive advantage in cybersecurity isn’t just detection — it’s helping customers turn visibility into sustainable, measurable security programs.
