The German heat-sealing startup watttron is betting big on a seasoned industry hand to scale its international footprint. By bringing Markus Urich aboard as Head of Sales, the company signals a clear push to move its patented digital heating systems from niche innovation to mainstream packaging production.
Based in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, watttron GmbH has been steadily expanding its domestic operations while fortifying its sales leadership abroad. Urich now takes charge of the company’s global sales strategy and the international rollout of its digital heat-sealing technology, which promises to overhaul how packaging is sealed on production lines.
Urich arrives with more than two decades of packaging-industry experience. He started his career in software engineering and project management at OPTIMA packaging group before moving into a series of national and international leadership roles spanning sales and business development.

One of the defining chapters of his career came as sales director international, where he led efforts to internationalize, scale, and professionalize the sales organization. His focus there was on building global sales structures, cracking open new markets, and driving additional growth through a customer- and market-centric approach. Before that, Urich served as director new technology, overseeing the development of entirely new business areas and the commercial launch of innovative technologies.
“In Mr. Urich, we are gaining a proven expert in international sales and business development within the packaging industry,” says Marcus Stein, CEO of watttron GmbH. His track record in expanding international markets, professionalizing sales organizations, and successfully commercializing sophisticated technological solutions will be vital to advancing our growth strategy.”
Urich will make his official debut for watttron at PACK EXPO International in Chicago. Alongside the team, he plans to showcase the latest applications of watttron’s digital pixel heating technology and hold direct conversations with global brand owners, packaging manufacturers, and technology partners.
“Joining watttron was a deliberate decision to align with a company possessing extraordinary innovative potential,” explains Urich. “The combination of technological excellence, sustainability, and clear customer value immediately convinced me. Watttron’s digital heating technology opens up entirely new possibilities for the packaging industry. In particular, integrated Sealing Quality Control—which delivers real-time quality feedback during the sealing process—creates substantial value for users. I look forward to working with the team to expand our global market presence and support customers worldwide in implementing innovative, sustainable packaging solutions.”
With this key addition to its sales leadership, watttron reinforces its commitment to actively shaping the packaging industry’s transition toward greater sustainability, resource efficiency, and process reliability. The company’s digital heating technology enables precise thermal control, significantly reduces material and energy consumption, and unlocks new possibilities for advanced packaging designs and demanding sealing applications.
watttron is exhibiting at PACK EXPO International 2026 at the North Hall Exhibits at booth N-5686.
