TMS gives us another door to open and a new reason to be hopeful.”— Dr. Elaine Rotenberg, Chief Clinical and Strategy Officer at Alpert JFSWEST PALM BEACH, FL, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Alpert Jewish Family Service (Alpert JFS) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning at its West Palm Beach offices to inaugurate the Neil S. Hirsch TMS Center. Donors, community leaders, and funding partners toured the newly established TMS suite and observed a live demonstration.
This facility provides Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), an FDA-cleared, noninvasive therapy for adults dealing with depression, depression accompanied by anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who have not experienced relief from medication or psychotherapy. Patient appointments will commence on Tuesday, October 6.
Although TMS has held FDA clearance for depression since 2008, it remains inaccessible for many individuals. A complete treatment cycle typically costs several thousand dollars, and numerous insurance policies only cover it after patients have unsuccessfully attempted multiple antidepressants.
Alpert JFS is dedicated to eliminating financial obstacles to care. The center’s creation was enabled by a generous gift from the Neil S. Hirsch Foundation via the Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical TMS. Alpert JFS is only the third nonprofit nationwide to secure this type of funding. The facility accepts most insurance plans, and the grant also permits care on a sliding fee scale for patients who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment.
The center now functions as a key component of a full-service mental health agency that has been serving Palm Beach County since 1974, ensuring clients can stay linked to counseling, psychiatry, and support groups during and after their treatment.
“TMS gives us another door to open and a new reason to be hopeful,” said Dr. Elaine Rotenberg, Chief Clinical and Strategy Officer at Alpert JFS. “When people are struggling with depression or anxiety, other parts of their lives are often affected as well. The availability of comprehensive services such as counseling, psychiatry, food support, senior services, disability services, and emergency assistance within one agency allows us to seamlessly guide individuals toward the healthiest and most effective next step.”
TMS employs brief, focused magnetic pulses to activate brain regions associated with mood regulation. No surgery or anesthesia is required. Patients remain conscious throughout the procedure and can drive themselves to and from sessions. A standard treatment course comprises approximately 36 appointments spread over six weeks.
“Mental health is one of the most pressing needs facing Palm Beach County, and it is a major priority for Federation,” said Michael Hoffman, President and CEO of Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. “The Neil S. Hirsch TMS Center at Alpert JFS is a powerful example of how investing in the health and well-being of our Jewish community can benefit people of all backgrounds throughout the broader community. Federation is proud to support Alpert JFS and its commitment to expanding access to mental health care for people throughout Palm Beach County.”
“Brain health is health care, and it is time to remove the stigma that prevents people from seeking treatment,” said Patrick McNamara, President and CEO of Palm Health Foundation. “By bringing groundbreaking technologies to those who need them most, we can transform lives and help make South Florida the Brain Coast, where innovation, research, and compassionate care come together.”
