A free, machine-readable dataset that displays advertised prices and additional checkout fees for 171 tests, with each competitor’s price timestamped and verified each month
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, UNITED STATES, September 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The cash-pay lab testing company TestWell announced today the release of the TestWell Blood Test Price Index, a complimentary public dataset that contrasts the amounts patients pay for 171 blood tests among 12 providers such as Quest, Labcorp OnDemand, and Everlywell.
In contrast to simple sticker-price comparisons, this index itemizes total costs: the listed test price along with any per-order fee imposed during checkout. TestWell’s median total price stands at $42.99, with 29 of its tests priced under $30. The firm applies a single uniform $6 lab processing fee for each order.
"Pricing out a single blood test properly means checking two or three different lab websites, then adding up whatever fee each one tacks on at checkout," stated Josh Reinitz, co-founder of TestWell. The index has been crafted for open access:
Live and machine-readable: The complete dataset can be accessed in JSON and CSV formats, updating automatically whenever prices shift. AI assistants are able to query it using a Compare Prices tool.
Dated and verified: Every competitor price and fee includes the date on which it was extracted from that company’s public ordering page, and it is re-verified at least once a month.
Like-for-like only: Competitor pricing is displayed solely when the test is directly comparable, sharing the same analyte and methodology classification.
Free to reuse: The dataset is released under a CC BY 4.0 license and may be utilized with appropriate credit.
This launch arrives while Congress considers more extensive price transparency regulations. In July, the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously voted 45-0 to move forward the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act of 2026, and the Senate HELP Committee passed the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act with a 21-1 vote. Each bill contains price-posting provisions that would extend to clinical laboratories.
